Trekking Routes

Trekking on Elba Island

Trekking on Elba Island means discovering the beauty of the territory at a slow pace, guided by the scents of the Mediterranean scrub and the views that open up over the sea and hills. Hiking on Elba is an experience that goes beyond a simple walk: it’s the most authentic way to connect with the island’s true soul, through nature-filled trails, breathtaking panoramas, and hidden inland corners that link villages to the coast.

Thanks to the partnership with the CAI, Elba Vibe offers access to selected itineraries and the opportunity to enjoy trekking in complete safety, supported by professionals who deeply know and love the island and are able to highlight every nuance of it.
Among the most engaging experiences is the “Viandante Passport”: a travel companion that fills up step by step with stamps collected at participating locations. A fun way to turn every hike into a tangible memory, a trace of the emotions experienced.

The best itineraries

The most scenic trails between sea and nature
Grande Traversata Elbana

The Grande Traversata Elbana is the island’s signature trek, a route that crosses Elba from east to west along its main mountain ridge. It’s an immersive journey that reveals all the island’s different souls: from the mining landscapes in the east to the granite formations of the western coast. About 50–60 km long and divided into several stages, this itinerary leads hikers along panoramic ridges with views over both sides of the island, ancient paths used for generations, and villages that seem frozen in time.

Monte Capanne

Climbing Monte Capanne means reaching the highest point on Elba Island and seeing it from a completely new perspective.
The trail climbs to over 1,000 meters, crossing forests and rocky sections before opening up to breathtaking views over the entire island, the Tuscan Archipelago, and, on clear days, even Corsica.
It is one of the most iconic hikes on Elba, perfect for those seeking spectacular panoramas.

Coastal trails (Capo di Stella and south coast)

The trails along the southern coast, between Capo di Stella and the surrounding bays, are among the most scenic and accessible on Elba Island. Here, trekking becomes a light and continuous experience: cliffs overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, hidden coves reachable only on foot, and open views that accompany every step. These hikes are generally shorter and less demanding, perfect for combining movement and relaxation.

Marciana – Pomonte (historic trails)

The trails connecting Marciana to Pomonte pass through one of the most authentic areas of Elba, far from the busiest tourist routes.
You walk among chestnut woods, ancient mule tracks, and small mountain villages, along paths that tell the story of the island’s rural past and its deep connection with nature.

Napoleon’s Trail

Napoleon’s Trail follows some of the places where the emperor lived during his exile, linking the Villa dei Mulini, the Sanctuary of Madonna del Monte, and several panoramic viewpoints. Walking here means following the traces of a past that still lives on, among evocative landscapes and stories that span time.

Granite Trail

One of the island’s most distinctive and evocative itineraries, crossing the western area between Marciana and the slopes of Monte Capanne. The route tells the story of granite quarrying, with historic quarries, landscapes shaped by time, and spectacular sea views. A perfect hike for those looking for a blend of nature, culture, and unique scenery.
